THE BRIEF

Our clients were undertaking an extensive renovation project which included opening up the existing kitchen space to create an all-inclusive living and social hub within their home. The home is family focused but with their adult children having moved out, it was time for them to create their own space to enjoy for the years to come.

THE SOLUTION

Our clients were wanting a modern functional kitchen, but to have the rustic and recycled appearance of a traditional farmhouse style kitchen. The area was compact and to fit everything they were wanting within the kitchen there was an emphasis on five specific things:

  • The new design needed to work within the footprint of the existing kitchen.
  • Internal cabinetry solutions to provide accessibility.
  • A designated coffee station area.
  • A large island to also provide a social connection with the kitchen.
  • A particular finish to the kitchen cabinetry.

the result

To maximise storage and accessibility a combination of drawers with internal accessories, an internal corner solution and pull out food storage mechanisms were used.

The kitchen Island bench top was set at a specific height of one metre to create a large preparation space, but also a warm, comfortable seated area where friends and family can connect socially.

The kitchen was complemented with the decorative freestanding Smeg fridge and Falcon oven finished in black, white subway tiles for the splash back, porcelain butler sink and industrial styled pendant lighting.
